5 Reasons why you should sign up for Winter Swim Lessons (& Tips)

We commonly see parents who are reluctant to sign their children up for Winter Swim Lessons for fear of the cold weather and the thought that swimming will increase their child's chances of getting sick.  Actually, that is not the case.  Read on to learn the truth about this common myth in our: 5 Reasons why you should sign up for Winter Swim Lessons at Five Star Aquatics.

1.  Research shows that children are actually LESS likely to get sick when participating in winter swim lessons!  Swimming is great for the immune system and keeping up with regular exercise is a major benefit for the body.  The humidity around the pool helps ease congestion as well.

2.  Your child won't forget all of the important skills he or she has been learning.  We have often seen children take a break in their swim lessons and come back in the spring, only to see their skills have regressed.  Consistency is key with learning to swim, so keep up with swimming at least once a week in order to see the improvement your looking for.

3.  Ease those winter blues with a dip in our 90 degree pool!  You'll feel like your on a vacation this winter when you spend some time in the warm water.  Bring the family in for Open Swim or Family Swim so everyone can experience the calming and comforting effects that our pool has on the body.

4.  Swimming is a way to keep active even when it's cold outside.  It is recommended that children get 60 minutes of physical activity every day.  Keeping up with swim lessons during the winter can help your child stay fit, especially since swimming uses every major muscle in the body.

5.  Five Star Aquatics has availability at the time/day you want.  We have plenty of after school, evening, and weekend time slots to fit any schedule.  The earlier you sign up for lessons, the more flexibility we have in scheduling.  Also, unlike many other swim schools, we give two make ups per student.

TIPS

- Be sure to wear a jacket and other cold weather accessories when coming to and from swim lessons.
- Dry your child's hair before going outside.
- Stay home if your child is running a fever.

  1. I love this idea that the humidity around the pool lowers the chances of congestion. This is true with hot showers and so it must also be true for an indoor pool. On top of this, getting the heart pumping extra during the winter could be great for you as well.
